SG - Investment Analyst

Permanent employee, Full-time · Singapore

About the role
As StashAway surpassed USD 1 billion in assets under management (AuM), we continue to live by our mission of empowering our clients -- ranging from B2C retail investors to HNW/UHNW individuals -- to build their long-term-wealth through low-cost, transparent and data-driven products.

We are on the search for an Investment Analyst with quantitative and multi-asset experience to join us. Being a part of the Investment department and working alongside the Technology and Product departments, you will support the backtesting and optimisation of our investment framework. You will perform ongoing monitoring and adjustment of the portfolios, and perform due diligence on new investments. You may expect a steep learning curve, with a particular emphasis on how to build and manage asset allocation strategies. You will have the opportunity to learn about and directly interact with StashAway’s proprietary investment framework -- Economic Regime Asset Allocation (ERAA®) framework. You will be mentored to give market commentaries on behalf of StashAway, and eventually be independent in constructing new models and portfolios.

You could be a great fit as our Investment Analyst who reports directly to and works closely with Freddy (Co-founder & Chief Investment Officer) if you:
  • are passionate and extremely analytical about investments,
  • excel in numbers and data-driven decision-making,
  • like to build systems and automate processes by being detail-oriented,
  • are committed to learning and working hard to reach the highest standards you have set for yourself, and
  • thrive on working independently in a fast-paced environment.
The core responsibility of the Investment Analyst is to assist Freddy (Co-founder & Chief Investment Officer) on all areas of investment management for the Group. The following is a list of examples of areas of engagement over the next few quarters:
  • Directly assist the Chief Investment Officer to interact with the research infrastructure for modelling, optimisation, backtesting, analytics, and data management, to ensure an efficient and robust research process.
  • Monitor trade execution performance, and work with our Product and Technology teams to continuously improve our trading automation.
  • Conduct empirical statistical modelling on relevant data and develop actionable insights for all of StashAway's client communication channels; this enables data-centric and clear information for the Client Engagement team to communicate with our clients.
  • Must-haves:
    • Open only to Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents.
    • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, or in analytical disciplines with top-of-the-class grades. Fresh graduates in related studies are also welcome.
    • Familiar with asset allocation decision process in terms of strategic and tactical asset allocation.
    • Strong numerical reasoning, analytical skills, and ability to work through tasks logically. A deep understanding of statistics is a strong plus.
    • Ability to multitask, manage multiple priorities while working in a rapidly changing environment.
    • Strong capabilities in the areas of critical thinking and quantitative problem-solving with a proven ability to learn fast.
    • Result-oriented and strong bias for action: you like to get things done.
    • Strong drive to succeed and a world-class work ethic.
  • Good-to-haves:
    • Prior (personal or professional) experience in investment management within the wealth management, fintech, or private banking space.
    • Interest in pursuing a CFA designation or other financial qualifications.
    • Programming or scripting (e.g. SQL, Python, R) experience and knowledge and/or interest in deepening coding skills (mainly SQL or Python).
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex and ambiguous topics to explain concepts to different audiences.
About us
What We Do

StashAway is the faster way to reach your financial goals. As a digital wealth management platform, we design personalised portfolios and monthly investment plans based on your unique characteristics, and manage your portfolio with highly advanced investment strategies.

The company was founded in Singapore in 2016 with the ambition of expanding to other fast-growing Asia Pacific markets since 2018.

StashAway is led by its three founders, Michele Ferrario, former CEO of ZALORA Group; Freddy Lim, former Global Head of Derivatives Strategy of Nomura; and Nino Ulsamer, founder of several technology companies around the world.

Why We Do

We deliver sophisticated, personalized advice at a fraction of the cost of existing, basic solutions. Our advanced technology enables us to deliver to each investor a sophisticated investment strategy that was once only available to institutions and high net-worth individuals.

Traditional investment products charge between 1.25% and 5% in annual fees. At 0.2% to 0.8% in annual management fees, StashAway offers a convenient, digital user experience with personalised portfolios with no minimum balance, no restrictions for withdrawals, and real-person client service. We encourage individuals of all net worths with portfolios of any size to build their wealth.

Who We Are

Supported by prominent advisors, the StashAway team is committed to providing investment advice and client experience of the highest quality. Our team is made up of top-tier developers, designers, fund managers, creatives, and managers with diverse backgrounds from all over the world – currently representing Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam.

In July 2020, StashAway raised US$16 million through a Series C round led by Square Peg, the largest venture capital fund in Australia. Burda Principal Investments, the growth capital arm of German media and tech company Hubert Burda Media, as well as existing investor Eight Roads Ventures, the global investment firm backed by Fidelity, both also participated in the round.

We write our own rules, and do whatever it takes to build a substantial, meaningful product and service. We work hard, don’t cut corners, and love bonding over (lots of) food.

With regards to our culture, we want StashAway to (i) have a rewarding, diverse, radically candid and cooperative growth environment; (ii) where people work hard, take responsibilities and grow as individuals and as a team; (iii) embrace an open-minded meritocracy, and (iv) are ethical and compliant.
